Yeah! This should be awesome! On November 19, the 2nd annual Fuel TV California Surf Festival will be held at the California Surf Museum in beautiful Oceanside. The four-day event is going to be chock-full of surf culture—from movies and music to photography, art and book signings.
One of the new films to debut are the highly anticipated Taylor Steele movie, The Drifter, which takes an thorough look into Rob Machado’s life. Another film we’re looking forward to seeing is Russell Brownley’s “Gum For My Boat,” a documentary about a recent trip to Bangladesh.
Check out the California Surf Festival website for more information.
La Paloma has had its share of surf and skate video premieres lately. Hell, we’ve been to 2 in the last few weeks. But no complaints, especially when the the latest features Andy Irons, Benji Weatherley, Donavan Frankenreiter & Shane Dorian. Drive Thru Australia 2, the 9th installment of the Drive Thru Series, premieres on Wednesday night at 7pm & 9pm at Encinitas’ old movie theatre. Some of the surf stars of the film will be there, and there’s tons of free goodies to get.
The film follows the crew as they spend two crazy weeks driving, surfing and traveling through some of Australia’s most incredible coastlines. From kangaroos to sky diving, shark scares to golfing, Drive Thru Australia is packed with hilarious hijinks and incredible surfing. The crew also scored a few sessions with local guides Parko, Taj and Dean.
Producer Greg Browning says, "As far as the surfing is concerned its hands down the best so far on any Drive Thru. It was an amazing crew of surfers and the perfect country to go to."
Have you picked up the newly released DVD of Thomas Campbell’s The Present yet? Shot in super 16mm film, the California-born photographer/artist/filmmaker’s latest project is a colorful and artistic exploration of the ocean and the surfers that love to play in it. Campbell captures some of surfing’s most creative talents including Dave Rastovich, Dane Reynolds, Joel Tudor, C.J. Nelson, Ry Craike, Devon Howard, Dan Malloy and Rob Machado riding waves around the world in West Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Sumatra and Java. Campbell also delivers a funny skit and a soundtrack of timeless, mellow music (including tunes from our friends, the Mattson 2) making The Present another classic surf film masterpiece.
