This Saturday, June 27, marks the 5th annual Switchfoot Bro-Am surf contest & concert at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. The all-day event was created by the popular rock band Switchfoot to give back to their hometown of San Diego by benefiting a local children’s charity through funds raised at a pre-event auction night, beach vendors, generous sponsorships & an after-party at the Belly Up.
The 2009 Bro-Am will aid StandUp For Kids, an organization near and dear to Switchfoot singer Jon Foreman. Started in San Diego, StandUp For Kids is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of homeless, at-risk and street kids in the Oceanside and San Diego area.
The event kicks off at 7:30 AM with a surf contest, with participants including professional surfers Timmy Curran and Rob Machado, riders representing O’Neill, Billabong, Transworld Surf, Jedidiah & members of Switchfoot, among others.
The free beach concert will feature performances by a number of well known musicians including Tristan Prettyman, Timmy Curran, The New Archaic, The Howls, Indivision, Jane Carrey Band, and Switchfoot’s Jon Foreman and friends. What’s even cooler is that the sound for the concert will be entirely solar-powered and 100% pollution-free. San Diego-based Sustainable Waves utilizes renewable energy sources of the sun to avoid emitting nearly 1,000 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere.
There will also be a live art mural by our friends at Jedidiah, Glue Network and Sezio, sponsored by Flexfit and a ton of beach vendors including Pizza Port, Surfrider Foundation, Nika Water, Honest Tea, Sambazon, Life Rolls On, INT, Freedom Is Not Free, TeaZazz, Harney Sushi and plenty more.
An after-party hosted by Switchfoot and featuring Fiction Family, Stripes & Lines, Alex Woodard, and Molly Jenson at The Belly Up will round out the day to help raise additional funds for StandUp For Kids.
